Tax Preparation FAQs
Do my documents need to be organized before I contact you?
No. Some clients come to us with neatly organized tax documents, while others need assistance gathering records and identifying what is required. We meet clients where they are and can help determine the best path forward.
What is the difference between an Enrolled Agent and a CPA?
The enrolled agent status is the highest license the IRS grants a tax professional. Enrolled agents are generally unrestricted as to which taxpayers they can represent, what types of tax matters they can handle, and the IRS offices before which they may practice. Unlike attorneys and CPAs, who may or may not choose to specialize in taxes, all enrolled agents specialize in taxation. States license CPAs and attorneys, but enrolled agents are federally licensed.
How can I submit my documents to you?
We are flexible and will work with you in the way that best suits you. Whether you feel confident uploading your files directly to a portal or bringing a box full of papers, we can handle it and are happy to assist you personally. You are dealing with humans, not with anonymous web pages!
Can you help if I haven't filed tax returns for previous years?
Yes. We can help with prior-year tax returns and explain your options if you have unfiled returns or have received notices from the IRS.
What does representing a client before the IRS mean?
Representing a client before the IRS means acting on the client's behalf in communications and dealings with the Internal Revenue Service. As an Enrolled Agent (EA), Rita can speak directly with the IRS, respond to notices, request account information, negotiate payment arrangements, assist with audits, and help resolve tax issues, giving clients peace of mind with a qualified advocate handling many IRS matters on their behalf.
What happens after my tax return is filed?
Our relationship doesn't have to end after tax season. If questions arise, you receive additional tax documents, or you receive correspondence from the IRS, we're available to help. Many clients also benefit from our year-round Daily Money Management services.
What types of tax returns do you prepare?
We prepare individual income tax returns for retirees, employees, investors, and self-employed small business owners, including returns involving Schedule C business income, rental properties, and investment income.
Do I have to use an online portal?
No. While many clients appreciate the convenience of our secure document portal, we understand that not everyone prefers working electronically. We offer flexible options for sharing information and are happy to discuss the approach that works best for you.
